SUCCESS: Alex Holmblad will soon be dancing through the halls of the University of Iowa.

When you ask her what her favorite thing to do is, she’ll reply with “dance.” Alex Holmblad (12) grew up surrounded by dance and has been dancing ever since she was five years old, an impressive 13-year commitment. She spends upwards of eight hours a week dancing at Dancer’s Studio, one of the few dance studios in Riverside. Holmblad specializes in the forms of modern, ballet and jazz dances, but her personal favorite is modern. She is inspired by her ballet teacher Melody Bishop, who taught her the upper levels of ballet and introduced her to dancing with pointe shoes.

This commitment paid off, because she will be studying dance at the University of Iowa.  After rigorously auditioning at many colleges across the United States, she was accepted into the dance departments of the University of Iowa, Muhlenberg College, and Goucher College. After intense deliberation, she decided to go to Iowa because “it simply has the best program with everything I want out of a dance program. Also, one of the head instructors there used to teach at UCR and my mom studied with him and highly recommended him, so it just seemed like fate.”

Although she doesn’t know exactly what she wants to do with dance, she knows that her future will definitely involve the art of dance in one way or another. Whether she becomes a professional dancer, dance therapist or physical therapist for dancers, she knows without a doubt that her future will involve her one true passion.
