The Official Student Paper of Riverside Poly High School

CIF Round-Up: Winter

Mar 10, 2014

Girls’ Water Polo: Your star-packed water polo squad came back strong after a disappointing loss in the championship game last season. Up first was a battle against Burroughs High School, in which the girls easily handled the Indians with the score of 22-1. The Bears cruised to another victory in the quarterfinals, defeating Caprio Lompoc 21-7. With increasing momentum, Poly headed to the semifinals to face Redlands East Valley and clinched a spot in the championship with a win of 14-5. In the final game of the season, your Girls Water Polo team finished successfully, winning 15-10 in the finals against Warren, becoming the Division 5A CIF Southern Section Champions.

Boys’ Basketball: With the first playoff berth since the 2011-2012 season, the boys squad entered the playoffs with high hopes. Those high hopes were impaired when the team suffered a disappointing loss to the Oxnard Yellowjackets in the first round with the score of 56-53.

Girls’ Basketball: The Lady Bears entered the playoffs with momentum as they defeated Rancho Verde by 20 in a wild-card game. Competing against Burbank Burroughs, Poly came up short 66-47 in the first round. With sophomore standout Delacey Brown returning next season, the future seems bright.

Boys’ Soccer: Ending the regular season on a good note, tying 1st place team J.W. North 1-1, the Bears looked to continue their success, but came up short 1-0 in the first round against Laguna Hills. They ended their season with a respectable record of 13-7-5.

Girls’ Soccer: Poly’s own soccer girls went deep in the playoffs, beating Estancia and Downey on the way, ultimately losing to soon-to-be champion South Torrence in the quarterfinals 2-1.
