Poly Football’s Only Win of the Season

Oct 31, 2017

VICTORY: Poly Bears beat the Temecula Valley Golden Bears 30-23 in an exciting  football game

On September 27, Poly’s Bears faced off against Temecula Valley’s Golden Bears in a varsity football game. Poly now has a Win Loss Ratio of 1-6 overall; however, specifically for the League statistics, they have a Win-Loss Ratio of 0-2; having lost to Valley View on October 6th.

Poly began the game by kicking a field goal, and kept Temecula from scoring until the end of the first quarter, with a score of 3-0. Although Temecula began to come back during the second quarter, Poly kept their lead, and by halftime, the score was 17-10. During the first half, Temecula suffered two injuries that resulted in both of the players being led off the field to recover. Poly then stayed in the lead through the end of the third quarter, ending with a score of 23-17. During the fourth quarter, Temecula’s #19 Cleveland Ring rushed the ball to tie the game with a touchdown, but the team missed the extra point. Cheers erupted in the stands as the football sailed away from the goal posts, ending the 4th quarter with a score of 23-23. The game was then forced into overtime, until Poly ended the game with a touchdown plus the extra point. The final score of the game was: Poly: 30, Temecula: 23.

Poly football players each have their own views about how the game should have played out. Armando Pelayo (11), guard and part of the defensive line for the varsity team, felt the game should have ended much sooner. “Stupid mistakes made the game longer than it needed to be. It should have been an easy win, but we managed to come back,” Pelayo said.
