Four Poly students competed in the History Day competition at the county level. After advancing from the RUSD district competition, these four Poly competitors succeeded again at the Riverside County competition. Tina Velez (11) wrote a historical paper on the “Government Debacle at the Stringfellow Acid Pits,” and won the first place position in her category. Emily Hughes (10) created an individual documentary on “Memories on Manzanar and Beyond: Perspectives on Japanese Internment,” and received first place in that category. For their group exhibit about desegregation in RUSD, Connor O’Rourke (11) and Travis Osborn (11) received second place in the category. All of these students will continue on to National History Day for California, in which they will compete against the state’s best. This competition will be held at the Riverside Convention Center from April 25 to April 27.
