Poly seniors in football, cheer, sports medicine, and band got to be recognized and cheered on by their classmates!

On Friday, October 24, Poly Bears faced Valley View for our annual Pink Out game and Senior Night. With a score of 28-10, the game was absolutely amazing!

Before the game started, all the seniors from football, cheer, sports medicine, and band got their baskets and their name recognized. Senior Aubrey Cochran explains that “experiencing senior night was definitely bittersweet. It’s hard to know I’ll be leaving something that’s been a huge part of my life so far, but being recognized as a senior and knowing the legacy our class is leaving for the pep squad is super inspiring and makes me want to be the best example for our underclassmen.” She also shares that, in all her years of pep squad, performing is her favorite part. Aubrey continues to tell us her favorite memory was, “going to Florida with the dance team last year. I’m so grateful that I got to experience [the trip].”

On the field Marjok Gustafson (11) is our quarterback. “I got three touchdowns. I felt chills and got so pumped. I knew I had to [focus] and [could not] disappoint the crowd and team.” The team’s community is tightly packed, so when they win it is a big feat. The win the team got was another step toward the league championship they deserve. The hard work and training these athletes have gone through truly shows their dedication to the sport.

Behind the scenes, ASB takes the whole week to prepare for the senior recognition and the pink out game. “We start poster making Tuesdays and sometimes even a Monday if it’s a big game [like this],” says ASB President Saydee Salcedo. Before the game the seniors took the time to take photos and cherish all their last memories of high school.” This game was not just a big night for the seniors in football and cheer, but all the seniors at poly. The pink out game signifies the beginning of the end for the seniors as this is the last home game of the season.

As Poly sends off the football seniors, all seniors take the time to realize how close the end of the year is. We are already in the second quarter, grades are important, and college applications are due. This football sendoff is one of many lasts for these seniors and the time to cherish new memories is sooner than most think. So, as the year progresses, be sure to savor all the time left with those seniors close to you; their time here is ticking away day by day.
