As Jules prepares to head off to college, read on for his reflection of his time in high school.

As senior year comes to a close for hundreds of Poly bears, there has been one student that sticks out from all the others. Jules Ream, a Poly High School scholar student, has demonstrated his Poly pride over the last four years  by being involved in multiple activities on campus. He exhibited his athletic talents on the volleyball and water polo teams and his artistic talents as a member of Chamber Singers. Jules has been a part of many clubs and extracurricular activities throughout his high school career, and has not only shown inspiration to his classmates, but has made dozens of friends along the way.

It was only four years ago when Jules was promoted from Gage Middle School and walked onto Poly’s campus for the first time excited but scared.  When asked about his first impression of high school, he said “I think it was a much bigger campus and environment from middle school, harder to navigate, and to just fit in.” That didn’t stop Jules from trying new things. His freshman year he joined Chess Club and waterpolo to get involved and make friends. He later joined the volleyball team and Choir which made his circle of friends complete. When asked what activity will be the one he looks back on as a defining moment in high school he said, “ Water polo has got to be my favorite, my teammates were amazing, it was fun to swim, and I’ve made so many friends and memories because of it” One of his favorite memories he experienced in Water polo was going to CIF in 2025 and competing all the way up to round 3 with his teammates. When asked about what Jules does outside of school, he responded “ I play piano. I always loved piano and I like music in general, it just kinda stuck out to me.” Jules explained that playing the piano is what made him interested in becoming a musician in the future, stating: “Playing piano, guitar, and maybe even starting a band in the future is something I want to do.” He originally wanted to be a physicist because he was interested in the universe, but found his passion in music. As Jules continues to pursue his future career of music, he plans on studying at Westmont College. “I’m going to Westmont for school, but what I’m actually more excited about doing is surfing,” he states.

While also enjoying water polo, Jules also loves surfing.

When the topic of “favorite teachers” came around, he named two who made a huge impact on him while at Poly. He professes, “I love Mr Schiller, because he’s just an amazing teacher, he is really involved in what he does and just tries to make his class engaging.” Jules’s second teacher was Ms. Walton, saying “She just is a really funny teacher to be around, singing is nice, but the memories I’ve made in her class just makes every day more enjoyable.” As we switched topics from teachers, I then asked what his favorite high school memories were: “Definitely float building” he responded, “ hanging out and getting to make new friends just made it stick out as something I really enjoyed.” When asked what his biggest accomplishment in high school was, Jules responded, “going to CIF for Volleyball.” He then went on to say, “we worked hard as a team to get to the position we were at when CIF rolled around, and I was just so engaged to try my best in the sport.”  When asked what advice he would give to his younger self, he replied, “be more authentic.” This is great advice for any student just coming in as a freshman.  When asked what advice you would give to anyone at Poly about how to make their remaining time most memorable, he paused. As he thought about it for a moment, Jules went on to say “enjoy the time you have in high school, but remember to manage your time and school work. It catches up to you quickly, but try to be on top of it so you can have more time to enjoy the little things you experience.” As the chapter of high school closes for Jules and other seniors, we wish everyone the best of luck for the future of their own paths and careers. As Jules goes to Westmont next year, we hope that he continues to succeed and grow not only as a person but as a leader.
