Poly varsity girls’ tennis has high hopes to win CIF and to become repeating league champs this year and years to follow.  The team started their season with a walloping 18-0 win against Ramona High School, followed by a 17-1 and an 18-0 win over Murrieta Mesa and Citrus Valley respectively. “We’re off to a strong start and hope to keep it that way throughout the year,” varsity player Kyley Demshki (9) said.

This year the tennis team has five freshman girls playing on varsity: Jalyn Kornblum, Torrey Mateljan, Kyley Demshki, Jasmine Dhalla and Maxelle Bernie. This number of freshmen on varsity (and others on J.V.) will hopefully create a strong program in the upcoming years. “The five of us freshmen hope to keep the winning streak going through our four years and reach CIF consecutively,” Demshki said.

The team has been training during sixth period every day and had some practices over the summer to help prepare for league.  Coach Richard Moore said, “The varsity girls have been working diligently on their games, on their own.” When asked how she had personally prepared for the season, Jalyn Kornblum (9) answered, “I’ve been doing a lot of training on the court and in the gym to prepare for this season as well as prepping my mental game to stay strong during the season.”

Last year the varsity team won league and went to the finals in division five for CIF. This year they hope to defend their league title and become the CIF champions. “The challenges will be posed by teams out of our league and the playoffs,” Moore said.
