DEPARTURE: Poly High School’s senior teachers share advice for the departing seniors and upcoming seniors and reflect on the highlights of the first full school year since 2019.

As the school year of 2021-2022 nears the end, it is not only the Senior Class that is reflecting on all the memories made throughout high school, but also the senior teachers who watched the class of 2022 grow over the past year. When inquired about the first full school year since 2018-2019, beloved senior teachers, Mr. Booth and Mr. Ermert, and senior advisors, Mrs. Avila and Mrs. Douty all agreed that it was an exciting return. When asked how the return to school was, AP Government and Econ teacher Mr. Booth says that it was “better than expected,” mentioning that the “senior class deserves a lot of credit for setting the tone.” Mr. Ermert acknowledges the importance of a face-to-face school year as they “move into the real world,” recognizing the hardships that they have endured over their high school career. Sharing advice for the upcoming seniors, Poly’s U.S. History teacher and senior advisor, Mrs. Douty, notes that it is important to “keep your eye on the prize, keep that work ethic up, and make sure you are diligent in your school work.” Compelling the departing seniors to “enjoy every moment,” Puente teacher and senior advisor Mrs. Avila reminds the Class of 2022 that “life moves quickly so learn a lot and experience a lot and make a lot of memories.”
