14 March 2013 – The boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed against Arroyo Valley this past Tuesday. Maintaining a large lead throughout the majority of the day, both teams compiled a combined 136 point victory margin with the boys defeated their opponent by a score of 106 to 30 and the girls secured the victory with a score of 98 to 38.

Although the intense heat – which reached up to 93 degrees (and even hotter on the rubber turf field)– proved to be a crucial factor in both teams’ playing level, track leaders Senghor Joseph (12) and Christina Winn (10) proved dominant in multiple events. Joseph accumulated two first place spots in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles while Winn placed first in the 400 and 1600 meters. In addition, Taylor Russell (10) took first place in both the 100 and 200 meters and boys’ runners Jeremy AhSue (12) and Evan Renck (11) finished first and second in the 400 meters with Cameron Snowden (11) placing first in the 100 meters respectively.

The field teams provided just the same amount of success by overwhelming Arroyo Valley in all the events. High jump star,Travis Schulte (12) continued to outshine his competition by coming in first with a jump covering 6’2’’. Shotput standouts Lawrence O’Hara (11) and Sosefo Mailangi (12) placed first and second with throws of 48’0’’ and 49’2’’ respectively. For the discus competition, Poly had O’Hara, Mailangi, and Aaron Sanders (12) sweep the podium by placing first, second and third. On the girls side, Hanna Bernbaum (12) took first yet again by pole vaulting 8’0’’.

Wrapping up another successful victory on the track and in the field, the Bears look to continue their winning streak when they play at Arlington next Thursday, March 21 at 3:15 p.m.
