P!nk is back. Her new album, The Truth About Love, proudly displays 15 new songs, all about—you guessed it—love. The album came out September 18 of last year and has been wildly popular since. The song “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” rushed its way to number three on Billboard charts, with “Try” hot on its heels.

The album is a careful balance of powerful ballads and P!nk’s classic defiant pop songs. With heartbreaking emotion, P!nk sings about varying topics such as facing physical abuse, growing older and saying good-bye to someone you love. On the other hand, she sings about partying on the weekend and the agony that accompanies the walk of shame. Not only is the album a mix of such different atmospheres, but the songs are strangely ambivalent also. Set this album up as background music, and it’s the perfect atmosphere music for a party. Listen closely, and you’ll realize that there’s a darker undertone to what seems to be a light and bouncy song. P!nk collaborated with quite a few artists on The Truth About Love, including Nate Ruess from Fun., Lily Rose Cooper (AKA Lily Allen) and Eminem. The collaborations are all unique and incorporate the guest artists’ signature styles. For example, “Just Give Me a Reason” featuring Nate Ruess is reminiscent of Fun.’s own hit “Some Nights” with a simple piano intro that evolves into a powerful chorus.

P!nk has created a beautiful album with equally touching lyrics. The album has evolved from P!nk’s usual angst and resentment into something that is serious and bittersweet with tinges of cynicism, mixed in with wine-splattered party songs and the dollop of happiness that comes from being in love. That is The Truth About Love.
