STAFF: Our athletic trainer, Mrs. Lopez becomes the CTE course Sports Medicine teacher.

Megan Lopez has been working at Poly for 10 years as the athletic trainer and now looks forward to becoming the sports medicine teacher. Lopez was led back to Poly after being an athlete her entire life,  playing soccer for our school, and eventually graduating in 2007. Her career in sports medicine was inspired by Jim Clover, who worked with her to help her knee injury and she “felt inspired to get through that difficult time, which made [her] feel like passing it forward.” In high school, she was a very good student, and always knew she wanted to be back at Poly.

After graduating from college, her position opened up, and “it all fell in line.” She has loved the environment of being around student-athletes, who do what they are passionate about. Lopez strives to create an environment of comfort, both in her classroom and for those around her. She finds it important to “foster an environment where kids feel safe… a place where they can be.” Poly has been the perfect place for her because of the tight-knit community and “family you feel a part of.” Lopez is married with a 6 year old daughter. In her free time she likes to be with her family, go to the beach, and spend time outside. In her new position, she looks forward to “seeing students throughout their day and fostering a passion they have curiosity about.” As a person who loves athletes for their fun and motivated attitudes, she enjoys getting to know them as people.

To those reading this, Lopez would like to share that “it can be very easy to look outward and compare yourself to what you see… and to try to look more inward for that affirmation.” She reminds us all that “high school is a time of self-discovery… there is so much more to yourself that you’ll find on your way.” We look forward to continuing to have her on our campus.
