Boys Water Polo

Written By: Naomi Morales, Staff Writer

DOMINATING: During fall, Boys Water Polo thrives.

Since the 1960s, the Poly Water Polo boys have been league champions. This season we are hoping for a big splash as the team is expected to dominate in the water. The Poly Boys Team is in Division II, working toward obtaining a place in Division I. The man behind the team is the head coach, William Grisham, who has been coaching since 1974. ”I like the interaction with the players and the challenge of seeing how far my athletes will excel in their sport”, Grisham states, displaying his strong and caring passion for his athletes. The team’s varsity captains, Griffin Hord (12) and Milo Ribaudo (11), exude a passion for the sport, as they both are first-year captains this year. Milo Ribaudo (11) emphasized that ”The best part of Water polo is the competitiveness and how it is not an easy and simple sport.” The boys water polo team is headed for a very successful season. They would love your support at one of their games.

Girls Tennis

CONFIDENCE: Nick Mateljan, Poly’s Tennis Coach, is optimistic about this season.

Mr. Mateljan, the coach of Poly girls and boys tennis, has been coaching tennis for over 30 years and has been Poly’s coach for 7 years. This year, Mr. Mateljan is very confident in his girls tennis team, who’s season takes place in the fall. “I know our league’s going to be strong again… I’m confident that I will get the best out of my players,” Mateljan stated. Team captains, Chloe Ivy-Curwen (12) and Ophelia Kimber (12) jointly expressed that “Tennis is definitely an individual sport, but when it comes down to it, having a team beside you is really helpful for our performance. Looking at our team this year, given how close the girls have gotten already, it definitely looks like we’ll have a very supportive unit.” Their pre-season games so far have resulted in 6 wins and 5 losses, and we are rooting for them every step of the way as they head into their official season! Come show your support at an upcoming game.
