World-renowned band Oasis recently had their first tour after 15 years of separation, but what led them to where they are now?

Oasis, known for their classic rock hits and poetic song lyrics, are considered one of the best bands in Rock and Roll history. On August 27, 2024, after 15 years of being separated, the band announced their national comeback tour in 2025. Fans and music lovers were excited to be a part of this once in a lifetime experience considering the band’s troublesome history and breakup. In 1990 the Gallagher brothers were invited to join a band called “Rain” which was formed by Paul Mcguigan, Paul Arthurs, and Tony McCarroll. Unsatisfied by their performances, Liam Ghallagar decided the band needed a change, he wanted to call the band “Oasis” as a reference to the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, England. The band ultimately decided to go with the name “Oasis” and make Noel Gallagher the main songwriter and lead singer alongside Liam Ghallagar.

After over a year of performing live shows, the band recorded their first Demo tape of their 1993 album, “Live Demonstration”. Although this album was never fully released due to the tracks becoming lost, Oasis began to grow a following and was getting recognition from record label Creation Records. However they declined the offer from them and partnered with Sony’s record label. The band was only doing shows in the UK at the time, but Oasis got worldwide recognition due to their record label partnership with Sony. In 1994 Oasis released singles such as “Columbia” , “Supersonic”, and “Live Forever” which would later on put onto their album soon to be released the same year called “Definitely Maybe”.This album was released on August 29, 1994, and was Oasis’s debut album, hitting Number one on Billboard’s in the UK in less than a week and became the fastest selling album in the UK at the time.

In 1995, Oasis released their first number one hit single in the UK titled “Some Might Say”. In May of that year, Oasis began recording their second album “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory”. This album became a world wide success and sold over 4 million copies in 1995 and has sold over 22 million copies globally ever since, becoming the UK’s fifth best selling album of all time. Three singles were released on the album “Wonderwall”, “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, and “Champagne Supernova” which made Oasis number one on the US charts for the first time since their debut album in 1994. “Wonderwall”  was the most popular of  Oasis’s songs, garnishing a reputation amongst fans and gathering over 2.48 billion streams on Spotify and 611 million views on its official music video on Youtube. On August 10th and 11th of 1996, the band released tickets for their live performance at the Knebworth House which sold out immediately, with 250,000 tickets being sold and 2.5 million people applying for tickets.

Oasis had done the impossible. They reached stardom through their authentic artistry all while maintaining a growing fanbase, which remained their central purpose; they were just getting started. On August 28, 1997, Oasis released their third album, “Be Here Now”. It was Oasis’s most anticipated album yet and sold 424,000 copies in the first day. By the end of the week they had sold more than 696,000 copies, making it the fastest selling album in UK history which was a title they held for 18 years. Unfortunately US audiences found the album underwhelming and disappointing and it was not nearly as much of a success as it was in the UK. Selling only 152,000 copies in the US, the band focused on the love and praise they were receiving from their UK fans. Oasis became known as one of Britain’s most influential bands since the Beatles.

After the 2000s, Oasis began to struggle as a band.  All 3 original founding members Paul Mcguigan, Paul Arthurs, and Tony McCarroll became fed up with the Gallagher brothers’ “artistic differences” and they quit the band. Their last album as a band, “Standing on the Shoulder of Giants”, was released on February 28, 2000. The band went on to release three more hit albums, but struggled to hold on to band members. The brothers were notorious for micromanaging which led to many new band members leaving soon after they started including Zak Starkey, son of music legend Ringo Starr.

August of 2009 was their final performance. Lead singer Liam Ghallager contracted laryngitis which caused a legendary guitar fight between him and Noel Ghallager in front of all band members backstage. Noel Ghallager later posted on Oasis’s website two hours after the fight “It is with some sadness and great relief … I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” After that day, fans across the world were left heartbroken and wondered if Oasis would ever come back together as a band once more. In 2023, both Gallagher brothers were in the talks of reuniting the band together after 15 years of radio silence, and in 2024 the unthinkable happened. Oasis announced that in July and August of 2025 the band would be having a world tour starting in the UK and continuing through America, Australia, and Asia. On June 20, 2025 Oasis had their first live performance in Cardiff, Wales, in the UK after 16 years since the band broke up. They had sold out all performances from their World Tour for 2025 and have hinted at a new album in the works. Oasis has not only shown the world what Rock and Roll truly is, but the band has also created a connection between people and music itself.
