WORD WRIGHT: Poly’s first attempt at this nationwide completion is surprising in the best possible way.

By Tyler Demski, Staff writer

Just before the end of last year, Poly entered the Word Wright Challenge, a nationwide series of literature tests for all high school grades. Being the new kid on the block, so to speak, one might expect Poly to rank fairly, but certainly not extremely well.

The results are in, however, and they are very good for Poly High. Out of 582 schools in the nation, Poly’s ninth graders scored fourth, its tenth graders eleventh, its eleventh graders ninth and its twelfth graders thirteenth. These numbers are amazing for the school and far exceeded expectations, especially when one considers that this challenge is very popular on the East Coast and receives a far greater emphasis there than here at Poly.

The future iterations of the challenge are looking promising as well. While the nationwide results of the second round of the challenge are not in yet, the school’s is. Poly is home to two students who obtained perfect scores: Sachira Arachni (11) and Nathan LaPrè (12). This grants the school an enormous amount of prestige, as less than ten students in the entire competition did as well in the first round.

Poly’s future for the Word Wright Challenge is looking bright, despite the fact that the school is only in its first year of competition. Hopefully this success is not beginner’s luck, but an optimistic sign of future performances.
