CHAMPIONS: Girls’ golf goes undefeated in league, and four players qualify for CIF.

This year, Poly girls’ golf had a successful season. They became the undefeated champions of the Inland Valley League, marking their third undefeated year in a row. However, this success did not come without some adversity. “Our toughest competitors were schools that we played out of league like Walnut, King and Centennial. We overcame these challenges by staying positive, taking our time and being patient,” Co-Captain Raylene Sivinok (12) said.

Four girls on the team impressively qualified for individual CIF: Raylene Sivihok (12), Zoe Zink (12), Holland Shourds (11) and Katie Traylor (11). All of the girls are practicing diligently to prepare for CIF. “We are spending time on the range working on our short game to hopefully shave a few strokes off our scores,” Zink explained. Although they are working hard to prepare, they are still trying to keep things light and fun. “I am mainly focused on cherishing these last moments on the golf team and just making sure I am having fun with it while still competing to move on,” Zink expressed.

Shourds is the only player of the four who qualified for CIF individual finals. Shooting a 73, she qualified by meeting the 75 or under requirement. In regards to preparing for finals, Shourds said, “I practice every day and mentally prepare for what is to come the day of the tournament.”

This year, Zink and Sivihok were the team’s only seniors. Since the team is only losing two players next year, they should remain strong and become undefeated league champions for the fourth year in a row.
