POTTER: Universal Studios Hollywood invites guests to visit Hogwarts for the first time this spring.

By Chloe Vega, Staff Writer

After huge success in Orlando, Florida, Universal Studios has decided to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to its Hollywood location. This new world and its attractions will be open to the public on April 7, 2016. In the month prior to opening, some lucky groups of sightseeing muggles have been allowed to enter the world for a sneak peek. Every detail, from the buildings down to the refreshments, is based off of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The world captures the atmosphere of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, giving guests a magical experience.

As soon as the visiting muggles walk in, they are greeted by the Hogwarts Express, and in the distance lies the Hogwarts Castle itself. Leading up to it are the shopping and dining options Hogsmeade village has to offer. Hogwarts Castle is home to Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey, one of two rides found in this wizarding world. Upon entering the line, tourists are introduced to the story of the four founders of Hogwarts, and make their way through the rooms of Hogwarts, such as the Defense Against the Dark Arts room and Dumbledore’s office. The ride itself includes 3D effects, fast movements, and sudden flinging back and forth (perhaps not attractive for those with weaker stomachs). The park’s other ride Flight of the Hippogriff, is a small, family-friendly roller coaster, in which tourists take a trip around Hagrid’s grounds in a Hippogriff cart.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter also gives guests the chance to dine like their favorite witches and wizards. Hogsmeade village offers several shops, including multiple food vendors. The Three Broomsticks is a dine-in restaurant serving traditional English meals such as bangers and mash and fish and chips. Next door, muggles can grab a glass of (non-alcoholic) Butterbeer at the Hog’s Head Pub. For snacks, Honeydukes offers a huge variety of sweets, including Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs.

With the opening of this wizarding world, Universal Studios is bound to increase park attendance and revenue. There are plenty of amazing new things to check out, and it appeals to adults and children alike. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, this is definitely a magical experience you’ll never forget!
