Starting the Season with a Splash

UPDATE: The 2015 girls’ swim season is underway, and the team hopes for another successful season.

After a successful season in their new aquatics center last year, the varsity girls’ swim team is looking to improve their personal records and to send their top swimmers to CIF at the end of the regular season.

As members of a team, the swimmers are just as much of individual athletes as they are team players. Every race provides a swimmer with the opportunity to improve on his or her personal best in the event; time improvement is the goal of the average varsity girl swimmer. At the same time, the athletes are hoping to place well in their races against their opponents in order to score points for their team. Looking ahead, the girls are well aware that in order to have a successful season as a team, they must “be focused during practice” as they sometimes find themselves “all over the place,” according to Madeline Tovar (11).

After winning its first meet on March 5 against Corona High School, Coach Erin Garret hopes that her swimmers “give the best effort that they can possibly give” this season. She also aims to get as many girls as she can to CIF. Garret believes that her team can be successful if it is “competitive” and if the girls “do their best.”
