With graduation in less than a month highlighting outstanding seniors is a must, and one of those that should be recognized is Sydney Smith.

If you’re involved in any of our choir programs, you have heard of Sydney Smith. With involvement in chamber singing and show choir as a four year member with outstanding awards in leadership, Sydney loves what she does.

The 2025-26 Poly Mock Trial team

Not only is she involved in choir, but she also is a four year senior in Poly’s Mock Trial team. Sydney competed in and won county competition after competition, bringing home a county wide win and state advancement her sophomore and junior year. Sydney has competed in multiple roles, and this year she got to participate as a prosecution attorney. The team advanced to the semi finals and Sydney explains that she is “so grateful for such an amazing team all four years. [She doesn’t] know what she would do without those people.”

Sydney is also an outstanding member in Poly’s Link Crew program, during both her senior and junior year. She wants to thank Mrs. Avila for giving her such a great time in the program and says that she always enjoyed her time with Link crew.

Sydney is also involved in photography, she works as the baseball team’s  full time photographer, taking team pictures, action shots, and more for the players. All four years of her high school career, she has loved doing photography and she hopes to continue recreationally.

After graduation, Sydney has committed to the University of Oregon for political science beginning in fall 2026. After college, she hopes to go to law school and become an attorney, with a specialty in corporate defense.

College-bound to Oregon State University, Sydney is ready for what awaits her in the near future.

Sydney’s advice for her underclassmen is to “do as many extracurricular activities as possible. It may be stressful sometimes but I promise you won’t regret it. You will meet people that stick with you for the rest of your life.”

Her favorite memories from Poly are winning the Mock Trial county competition back to back. She claims that was one of the highlights of her high school career. Advancing to State twice in a row is a huge accomplishment and Sydney explains that she is extremely grateful for that experience. Another favorite memory of hers is just being the full time photographer for the baseball team. She explains that bonding with the team was just such a great time and that she will miss them once she leaves.
