Prom Preparations

UNFORGETTABLE: High School Musical once said that this was the night to remember, and Poly students fully intend to do just that.

As the end of the year comes to a close, the most memorable events are just starting to roll around. With prom only a few weeks away, many students have been busy with dress/suit shopping, figuring out promposals, and finding groups of friends to rent limos and party buses with for the night. The creative minds behind planning prom are credited to ASB as they manage all of the behind-the-scenes setup and preparation for this year’s dance. When interviewing ASB member, Sydnee Salcedo (11), about working together, and what the most important variables are, she said, “While planning prom, the biggest factors when working together is making sure everyone gets their ideas shared and seeing what we can do as a group to get people excited and get them to come to prom! In ASB, we love to come up with new, unique, and creative ideas so this year it did take a bit more time to figure out a theme but in the end, we were able to come together and agree on the best option possible.” In addition to that, our Commissioner of Assemblies, Paige Runyan (11), also makes comments regarding the decision for this year’s theme. “In terms of our theme, “Midnight Masquerade”, we created a small committee of junior officers who planned and picked out the theme. After brainstorming several names, it was tough to decide on just one idea but we all decided on a masquerade theme!”

Not only are our ASB members working hard to prepare for the night, but so is the entirety of the upper-classmen. Since the date was released for the prom, there has been a slew of promposals around campus and on social media. When asking some students around Poly what they think of this seasonal tradition, there were some mixed opinions but the majority do seem to be in favor. Ryden Klure (11) gives his opinion on this topic as well and states, “I think promposals can go either way really; some are for a big show and posting them all over. Although some are personal and thought out uniquely for someone you care about taking to prom.” The majority of promposals range from being charming and heartfelt with flowers to being humorous and inside-like jokes that would complement their significant other’s sense of humor.

Apart from that, choosing the right dress/suit has also been a huge stressor in making the night even more special. From a sleek and classic design to a more unique and eccentric style, there is something for everyone’s taste. The more popular look for gowns for this ‘22 prom season has been fitted, sleek, and flashy. As for suits, monochromatic colors and the classic “all black” look have been popular as well. Many students have even planned to match their dates with correlating colors, matching styles, etc. No matter what our student body chooses to wear for the occasion, I am sure everyone will be more than dressed to impress. As the date steadily approaches, many students’ excitement steadily grows as well. And with that, prom is a great annual tradition that gives upper-classmen the chance to come together to make this a night to remember!

ENCHANTING: Dazzling Dresses and Sophisticated Suits

Prom night is something that most teenagers look forward to since they’re little kids watching it on their favorite movies and television shows.  My most memorable time of seeing a prom with kids dressed to the nines was Taylor Swift’s You Belong With Me music video.  Seeing all the people in suits and dresses made me so excited and watching Taylor Swift have her “it girl moment” was something I think every girl has always dreamed of.

Prom was very fun and there were so many activities to do.  There was a photobooth with so many fun props and arcade games to play while waiting in line.  The air hockey table was especially a hit.  There were also some carnival rides and a fun house.  The fun house was to say the least scary to do in heels especially with a spinning tunnel at the end.  One of my friends did fall and the man controlling the spinning did have to stop in because we were terrified.  The music was amazing and dancing was the highlight of the night.  Seeing everyone run out to the dance floor when Dancing Queen by ABBA came out and hearing everyone scream the lyrics is one of my most cherished memories from the night.

Prom was overall an amazing experience and I am so excited to go again senior year.  The most enjoyable part of prom was being able to spend it with all of my friends and getting ready together.  While my feet are still bruised and blistered I would not trade the experience for anything else.
