FAREWELL: Spotlight seniors bid adieu to Poly.

Being at Poly these past years has brought so many amazing memories, and I can say with complete confidence that they have been some of the best of my life. There is truly no warmer, welcoming, and pride-filled community than Poly; and it’s been such an honor being a part of that community. This environment fosters not only an inspiring group of teachers and staff dedicated to bettering each student, but also encourages each student to find their own passions within extracurriculars. Through that I have found both passion and incredible fellowship in Spotlight, a community I am deeply sad to say goodbye to. Spotlight has introduced me to a love of journalism, and brought me closer to an incredible group of people. As editor, I have gained invaluable leadership experience while also exploring a newfound passion for publication and writing. Although it is melancholic to leave, I am excited knowing that Spotlight will continue to thrive as a student-led center for journalism and that Poly will continue to be a flourishing pillar of education in the community.

“It goes by so fast” – a phrase we’ve heard again and again from our teachers and our parents. It wasn’t until this week, my last week of high school, that I began to understand what they truly meant. In the past four years, I’m grateful that I can say I’ve had a well-rounded high school experience. I’ve stressed over AP courses, stayed out past sunrise, cried over exasperating teenage boys, met friends I’ll keep for the rest of my life, and some I won’t ever see again. Being a member of the student newspaper has given me a platform to chronicle the class of 2022’s experiences throughout high school, and in due course, empower me to pursue a profession in journalism. As seniors, we are at the threshold where these memories feel like yesterday while the real-world begins tomorrow. I am proud of the person I’ve become, yet I’ll always cherish the freshman I once was. As for everything that happened in between – it went by all too quickly.
