ENGAGEMENT: Elizabeth’s high school career is filled with fun memories that she will cherish forever.
When it comes to class participation, Elizabeth “Liz” Chinchilla is like no other. As the ASB Vice President of Student Engagement, a two year Link Crew member, and a one year National Honors Society member, Liz is involved in an extensive amount of the behind-the-scenes managing of the senior class.
Her favorite moment from high school “would have to be float building each year and getting to see all the planning and behind the scenes work that goes into it every year with ASB.” Elizabeth has been in ASB all four years and can “definitely say that the first few months each year are the best.”
After graduating, Liz plans on attending the University of Utah. She intends to major in early childhood education, with hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher. The university has an amazing program for childhood education, and Liz “loves Salt Lake City and the area directly surrounding the school,” making becoming a “Ute” an obvious choice.
Not only is Liz an ASB superstar, but she’s also involved in year round sports. During fall season, Liz dominates the field in flag football, taking home many wins and getting to ride in the football wagon during the annual Homecoming Parade. During the winter season Liz makes a drastic shifts, diving from the field to the pool. Liz is on yet another varsity sport, but this time, she sweeps the floor in water polo, bringing her team into CIF. And finally during the Spring season, Liz is the captain of the Poly Swim Team. In all of her sports, Liz shows resilience and pure athletic power as she inspires the other girls to continue to try their hardest.
Out of all her many sports, Liz believes that the swim team has been the most impactful. Elizabeth has been swimming since she was barely five years old, and now that she’s older, she’s competed in CIF for three of her four years! However, Liz cannot forget to acknowledge that “being part of the inaugural flag football team and going undefeated in league was something that [she] will never forget.”
Elizabeth wants to give a huge thank you to her favorite teacher in her high school years, Mr. Showalter. Elizabeth had Mr. Showalter her junior year for AP Psychology and could not begin to describe how grateful she is to him. Liz wants to say that she really appreciated his class, both his “style of lecture” and “how the class was super interesting and applicable to the real world.”
Finally, Liz’s advice to the younger students is to really put time and effort into your classes. She reflects, “If I could relive one year, I would relive my sophomore year and take my classes more seriously to better prepare myself for the future.” For Liz, high school has had its ups and downs, but it really wouldn’t be the same without her friends. She is grateful to the for all they have done for her. They pushed her to be the best version of herself while still having fun.
Overall, Liz’s extensive resume really says it all, from her leadership positions in her many clubs, to her energy during her games, Elizabeth Chinchilla is one of the names we are bound to remember from the Class of 25. Best of luck Liz in everything you do!
