CHANGE: Julia Wilbur is leaving Poly bears to join the Oregon Beavers, but she will not leave without having left a legacy behind.
Senior Julia Wilbur is graduating from Poly High School this year to begin her college journey at Oregon State University. Julia participated in a variety of clubs and extracurriculars that helped guide her toward her interest in studying Kinesiology. Although Julia will never forget her favorite, scariest, and most embarrassing memories at Poly, she is ready to start her college life.
Throughout high school Julia participated in National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Photography Club, and was Captain of the Pole Vault squad on the Track and Field team for 2 years. Although she does regret not having the best season this year, she did manage to reach great heights and placed third in League Championships. Julia soars academically, with an astounding 10 AP classes in high school and still maintaining a 4.55 GPA. Even while participating in clubs and track, she was still able to keep her grades up. Student athletes know the struggle of balancing academics and athletics, but Julia was able to excel in both at the same time.

With leaving for college, Julia has now had a chance to reflect on all the memories she made at Poly. Julia reminisces on “Madame Kund’s French 3 Honors class” and how much fun she had “learning French culture.” She says that was her “favorite class” she took at Poly. Given time to recollect, she decides her favorite memory was going to In-n-Out with the pole vault team after league championships.
Despite high school being a great time in her life, she was also faced a range of emotions, some of which include sadness, fear, and anxiety. Julia’s scariest moment was going into “an anatomy test unprepared.” And her most embarrassing moment was getting hit by a door on the way to class, something which many Poly students regrettably relate to. Julia remembers hanging out with her best friends, Eve Butcher, Brooke Bogner, and Cadie Esterling, knowing she will miss them so much as they all split ways for college. As she begins a new chapter in her life, she says that the one thing she would change about Poly is the parking lot. She believes that administration should “make it bigger” because there aren’t enough spots for everyone, but recognizes the challenges that arise with implementing this change. Other than that, Julia had so much fun being a Poly Bear and will never forget the special memories she made even as she begins her freshman year of college. Good luck Julia, we wish you the best in Oregon. Go Beavers!
