POLY: The Mr. Poly Pageant will occur on May 31 in the Little Theatre.

By Stephen Park, Staff Writer

Riverside Poly High School will host the first annual Mr. Poly Pageant on Friday, May 31 in the Little Theatre. It will be an all-male performance made up of Poly’s student body.

The Mr. Poly Pageant is a fundraiser for Poly’s Link Crew but is ultimately meant be an entertaining and funny event for everyone to come and enjoy.

According to Cynthia Wilson, teacher for Link Crew, “It’s meant to just be a fun event to do fourth quarter that would include all grade levels, staff and family.”

The pageant was born thanks to Poly’s own Hannah Keaneman (12). She was inspired by other schools that hosted similar pageants and wanted to bring it here with her own creative twists. She will be working with a group of Link Crew leaders to bring it to Poly and make it the school’s own.

The entire thing will be a play-off of a regular beauty pageant, albeit with hairier subjects. It will mimic the televised performances including events such as a talent and male evening attire competition. It will be all the beauty with none of the cutthroat, off-camera politics. As of now, not all of the events are listed and so will be a surprise for everyone.

Any male student attending Poly High School is welcome to fight for the title of Mr. Poly. Wilson would like for the clubs of Poly to join in as well. “It would be nice if every club had a male representative compete,” she said.

So far the event has been well-received by most of the students here. Cory LaGuardia(12) said, “It seems like it’s going to be a ton of fun. Hopefully it’ll be as funny as I think it’ll be and will be around for years to come.”

“The whole event seems so wildly entertaining. I wish I was a part of it!” Poly student Wyatt Wiggins (12) said. It seems as though Mr. Poly will be added to the long line of traditions here at Poly High School.
