ELECTION: Poly’s senior class student body executive officers have been chosen.

By Hannah Lerstad, Staff Writer

On Friday, February 22, the winners of the Associated Student Body (ASB) executive offices were announced. Kendall Morris (11) was elected president. Vice President of Public Relations went to Zoe Harness (11). Birdy Jones (10) won the position of Vice President of Activities. Isabella Ruiz (11) took the position of Treasurer.

The winners had various campaigning strategies that they think helped ensure their success.

“I think just talking to different groups of people, not only my friends, helped. I made my posters and flyers big so that people would recognize the name and think, ‘Oh, that’s Kendall!’” Morris said.

“I made T-shirts with my name on them and gave them to people and made hair ribbons, because I think that everyone who had a piece of Zoe would vote for me. Also, I made binder covers. I didn’t say that much in my speech because I figured that people would ask me my plans in person if they were interested. I also made really big posters and just told people to vote in general, not for me,” Harness said.

Ruiz and Jones were running unopposed, so both were guaranteed their respective positions.

Now that the elections are over, the winning candidates can focus on their plans for Poly.

“I want to make sure we spend wisely and be aware of what other clubs are doing. Make sure that we’re spending our money on the right things,” Ruiz said.

“This year, I plan on helping a lot with dodgeball, and having more of a say with the themes and locations of the dances,” Jones said.

Involving Poly students in clubs and activities is one of the main goals for next year.

“I think we’re not giving kids at Poly enough community service opportunities. Colleges look at that kind of thing, and unless you’re in a specific group or club you don’t get that. It would just help our school as a whole,” Harness said.

When asked what actions he will take now that he is in office, Morris responded: “Getting every person on campus involved in something, have more school spirit, and have people proud to say that they’re a Poly bear.”

Poly’s new leaders hope to institute long-lasting change and create an active campus for future Poly students.
