FINALE: Seniors gather to celebrate their path after graduation!
As graduation steadily approaches, many senior events begin around campus. Poly High School celebrates seniors’ accomplishments and plans after graduation with a new tradition called Senior Decision Day. The celebration isn’t just directed to students who are attending college, but those who are attending trade schools, serving in the military or workforce.
The event was hosted during an enrichment period and gathered the entire senior body. As everyone is settling down in the stands, Poly’s counselors continue to excite the crowd with a rally to the senior class and give out Poly t-shirts. The counselors proceeded to give everyone a chance in the spotlight to be recognized for their hard work and choice of after-school plans. They call out each category of students, from those attending community college to future military members. This inclusion of the entire senior class allows everyone to be proud of their accomplishments and to be recognized by their fellow classmates. Then the counselors featured even more students who are specifically proud of their after-school goals and who had previously submitted a form to be involved with the assembly. Most students chose to proudly state and announce the schools they are committed to. Counselors continued to provide a heartwarming video from some of the senior’s favorite teachers and staff members congratulating them and sharing wisdom for the new experiences yet to come. As the assembly came to an end, students had the opportunity to visit different booths that were curated to their own plans, providing a space of community for many different groups of seniors. Poly’s staff created a fun bonding environment with this past assembly essentially embellishing the sense of home and community within students. We can all thank Poly’s counselors for their efforts to provide this experience and hope this tradition is here to stay for all future classes. /
