With unexpected results from the world’s top artists, The Grammys serves as a memorable mark for this year’s music.
The Grammys is a night of giving credit to the artists and music industry as a whole; it is a time where people gather together to celebrate the true impact of music that defines the whole year, and it is a time where artists can put their fame and title in history and prove their musical value. On February 1st, 2025, the 68th annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles, California. Since its inception in 1959, it has continued to grow in popularity and at this point is a tradition well-known to all. It has always been known for Bringing artists together to celebrate each other’s achievements, and this year was no different. Artists such as Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gage, and Billie Elish were present, and they and many more all helped to decide who truly is the artist of the year.
With Trevor Noah hosting this year’s Grammys, everyone knew that this yearly broadcast would be one to remember. It started off strong with Bad Bunny winning album of the year with Debí Tirar Más Fotos as it is the first album in Spanish to win a top prize. “We’re not savage. We’re not animals. We’re not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans” was part of his speech and it was felt in the hearts of all present there. There is no doubt that he is referencing the terror that ICE has brought to many parts of the U.S. which has certainly moved him profoundly and has affected countless lives in America.

The night continued with Kendrick Lamar securing two awards, one for record of the year and another for best rap album. The record of the year is “Luther” which is a collaboration song with SZA and Kendrick on the album GNX. With GNX also being the album of the year, Kendrick Lamar made an amazing speech saying: “Hip-hop is going to always be right here… We’re going to be having the culture with us”. Afterwards, Tyler The Creator came on stage and performed two of his hit songs, “Thought I Was Dead” and “Sugar On My Tongue”, which were from both of his recent albums Chromokopia and Don’t Tap The Glass. With Regina King having a cameo mid performance, Tyler went all out with his famous act of true chaos.

Moving on, Billie Elish had an astonishing win with “Wild Flower” being the song of the year. Her speech also did not disappoint as she backed up what Bad Bunny said, saying “F*ck ICE”. Olivia Dean was then next to be recognized as she won the best new artist award due to her new LP, The Art Of Loving. Finally, Lady Gaga received the final award for best pop vocal album. With her new album, Maythem, being popular from the start of its release, it only grew in even more popularity due to its win. Lady Gaga’s speech was an inspiring message that told people to “always fight for [their] ideas” which made for a heartwarming end to the night.
The Grammys will always be a major event and will continue to show the true creativity of the artists that people are enjoying today. However these successes do not mean they can rest as soon after Bad Bunny was on the Superbowl field performing the halftime show. He primarily sang songs from Debí Tirar Más Fotos, and he paid homage to his Grammy award win by showing his speech on TV and giving the trophy personally to a little boy on the field. As the year goes by, only time will tell what is to come in the future of music. Although there is something that we all know: the artists that come in the future will only get better from here.
