Superhero companies like Marvel and DC are set to release very anticipated superhero films and shows in the new year.
After the release of DC’s Superman in July of 2025, hero fans have been filled with a redeemed hope for the future of heroes as we know it. Big companies like Marvel and DC have announced their projects in the works, but other companies are still keeping up, with Amazon releasing a new season of the animated Invincible.
WARNING: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. SPOILERS MAY BE AHEAD.

Since the release of the first season, Amazon Prime’s Invincible series has become a booming success. The series focuses on a young Mark Grayson (Invincible) honing his powers as he fights not only for the world, but for the universe. Throughout seasons 1-3, viewers begin to question his moral code and begin to wonder, is Mark really a hero? The true answer we will never know. Creator of the series, Robert Kirkman, explains that the show will have “an entirely new storyline, separate from the comics”. While viewers are quick to judge about the storyline, we can only know how it is when it releases this March.

Marvel announced the return of X-Men 97, the extremely high rated series only on Disney+, with a second season premiering in summer 2026. The first season of this animated series did extremely well and became one of the highest rated marvel productions on rotten tomatoes of all time, with a rating of 98-99%. The series follows the X-Men after the death of beloved Charles Xaveir, and Cyclops and Agnetos struggle for power and control of the circumstances the mutants face on Earth-92131. With so many plot twists and turns, viewers are on the edge of their seats and are begging for the return of the fan favorites such as Rouge the late Gambit.

One of Marvel’s most anticipated films of the year, Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere in the last month of the year. Fan speculation about favorites like Loki and Captain America set the movie high above the rest in levels of excitement. The Russo brothers encourage the fans to look deep into the teaser trailers, as they are “hints” and “actual stories” related to the movie. When Robert Downey Junior was announced as Dr.Doom, fans didn’t quite grasp the significance of this casting, but now, months after the announcement, fans finally speculate that RDJ’s Doom might only be recognized by Tom Holland’s Spider-man. But that brings up another question, is Tom Holland’s Spider-man even going to be in this movie? I mean, everyone forgot about him… right?

Everyone’s favorite superhero, Spider-man, returns for yet another movie. This one is said to follow Peter Parker directly after he asks the entire world to forget him. Fans are excited because of the rumor that Stranger Things star, Sadie Sink, is said to be cast as a villain in the official MCU and will be appearing in Spider-man Brand New Day. Marvel also officially announced that this version of Spier-man will be fighting street level villains, much like the comics. Fans from around the world are hoping this one lives up to its name, and starts a new era from the recent Marvel “flops”, to something that true fans can appreciate and respect.

The movie is set to follow the story of Kara Zor-El, well known as Superman’s cousin, and her backstory. Rumors have recently come to light that we will get a puppy version of the beloved dog Krypto, who made his premiere in Superman: Man of Tomorrow and was confirmed at the end of the movie to be Supergirl’s dog. The movie is said to take a large turn from the hope-filled Man of Tomorrow and focus on the rebellious side of Supergirl’s character. The director, James Gunn, claims that compared to Superman, Kara is a “total mess,” which adds to her character even more.
These are just some of the highly anticipated movies and TV shows that are in store for us this year. I am sure there will be many more that we can look forward to, especially the new season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
