Riverside Poly High Schools Girls Volleyball team is acing their games and taking sets in the first matches of the season.
The bears have shown exceptional skill in their recent games, winning ten games and persevering through the rest. They won the majority of their non-league games and are excited to start moving onto league games. Some past games they have won were against Valley View, Paloma Valley, and Hesperia. Their hard work is clearly paying off.
Our girls volleyball team has shown outstanding skill throughout the beginning of their season. Junior, Ava Williams, says they are a “strong team, and never give up,” and they are expecting strong future games. The team is looking forward to their next few games and possibly moving on to CIF, which is highly anticipated for them. Williams has been patient with the team, knowing they will get better throughout this season. She mentions that they have played hard and “made it a point to try [their] best in each game.”
The game that was played on September 22nd, against Liberty high school, was a very difficult game for the Bears, losing 3-1. Junior, Arline Ream, admitted it was a “good game, even though we lost.” Ream is one of the star players of this season, gaining a total of 27 serving aces and an average of 0.6 aces per set. Ream has played extremely hard this year and is not planning on giving up any time soon.
Another star player this season has been Avery Layne, an Outside Hitter, with outstanding stats. She has an average of 2.6 kills per set, 3.8 digs per set, 199 digs, 140 kills, 208 receptions, 26 serving aces, and an average of 0.5 aces per set. She has completely made the most of her senior season so far, and has even earned the title of Captain. In the week of September 7, she earned Poly Athlete of the Week for her amazing performance against Paloma Valley, leading to a league victory. Layne has shown incredible improvement from last year and keeps getting better each week.
The Girls Volleyball team has shown great potential to make it a very successful season. With how they are playing currently, they are likely to go to CIF and act as very strong opponents for other teams to face. Their next game is on September 29, against Paloma Valley, and they are anticipating another victory.
