In 2024, a 30 year old worship leader was found dead in a national park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She had been harassed continuously for months by her ex-husband, the Pastor of Solid Rock Church, he slashed her tires, stalked her, and even threatened her, yet her death was ruled as self induced.

Now in 2026 after popular demand and a Netflix documentary the case has been reopened, however many crucial pieces of evidence have been left out from all reports on all platforms.

On April 27, 2024 police were called to Lumber River state park in North Carolina, this is where they found Mica Millers’ dead body. She was married to John Paul Miller, a Pastor at Solid Rock Church, in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Mica was known among her community as an encouraging, bright, kind young woman who was an active member of her church and community.

Upon the announcement of her death the community was expectantly stunned, but not in the general way they would be. When her death was announced for the first time, it was not the police’s official statement, or the families formal announcement to their community, no, it was John Paul Miller, her husband who announced it in a disturbingly unconventional manner.

John Paul Miller giving his sermon at Solid Rock Church before announcing Mica Millers death

During his sermon, which he still decided to give after the immediate death of his wife, he tells the congregation that he has something to tell them. He requests for the congregation to “stand up … and ask that you leave church quietly and not talk about the announcement”. He then announced her death as “self induced” and stated that she was “not well mentally” and “needed her medicine”.

This fact was not classified or proven as the real reason Mica Miller had passed and due to the bizarre nature of the sermon, the clip went viral and drew massive amounts of attention to the story leaving millions of people skeptical as to what really happened to Mica Miller. What was revealed about this case and the relationship between the Pastor and his beloved wife drew back the curtain of a disturbing truth.

Mica had filed for divorce in October of 2023, she claimed that Paul cheated on her often and treated her extremely poorly. She confessed that any attempts she made in retaliation to his mistreatment he responded with threats of exposing her mental health issues to the church, locking her out of her home, and throwing her personal belongings in the yard.

One incident that followed after Mica decided to stay with her sister for a while resulted in the police having to be called as Paul Miller sent a threat via message, which he stated to Mica’s sister “I’ll be at your house at 12:55, I’m armed and ready”.

This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg of the harassment she faced, her tires were consistently slashed, numerous tracking devices were put on her car, she had gone through multiple phone number replacements, stalking and following, and she had to change living situations constantly due to repetitive doxing by Paul himself and other church members that were allegedly helping him. He even admitted her into a psych ward twice based on a mental state he claimed was true during a time period where he conveniently was able to move all of her belongings out of the house.

When she returned all of the evidence she had documented and collected to give to an attorney to provide the sufficient means to officially call for a divorce were all gone, including everything backed up on her cloud.

Mica was killed 12 days after filing for separation from John Paul, she met John Paul for the first time in 2009 when she was just 15 years old and he was her youth group leader. John Paul Miller would have been around 28 years old during their first interaction. This is a clear red flag towards a pattern of grooming and power imbalance in this relationship. He was in a position of authority and significantly older than her before going on to marry her when she was a legal adult.

This is unfortunately not an isolated incident, an affidavit from John Paul Miller’s ex wife claimed that he was being physically inappropriate with church members that were younger than 16 years old, another one of his ex partners claims that their relationship began when she was 14 and he was 19.

Mica Miller’s case is a clear depiction of the dangers regarding coercive control and domestic abuse, it’s become a focal point in the modern conversation surrounding feminism, believing survivors, and identifying the patterns of abuse past physical violence.

Coercive control is documented continuously in this case, with cumulative patterns by John Paul (mentioned previously) including stalking, hacking her social media accounts, installing tracking devices on her vehicle and isolating her from friends and family.

This reinforces the current movements towards the validation of ‘invisible’ abuse, Mica Miller’s case strengthens how domestic violence is not just about physical hits but about power, autonomy, and stripping the individual from their identity. The continuous lack of police engagement and intervention reinforces the need for legal systems to recognize coercive control, even within married couples, as a serious crime.

John Paul Miller throughout the case has been noted to have used his position of authority at Solid Rock Church to allegedly control the narrative, gaslight Mica, and discredit her concerns to the entire congregation.

The case also reminds individuals that we have to believe survivors until otherwise proven, especially when they speak out about abuse. Whether the abuser holds a position of high social status or religious respect it does not and should not matter ever. Abusers often have leveraged their public image and the idea that no one will believe victims to silence them.

Mica Miller’s experience illustrates systemic failure, it shows how victims are ignored or labeled as ‘mentally ill’ when they attempt to seek help, a common deflection abusers use towards taking accountability for their actions.

Mica’s case will forever redefine support, it shifts the modern perspective on empowering women by validating their documentation of abuse. Through the analysis of Mica Miller’s records, advocates are better equipped to teach others how to identify those signs of abuse early on. Mica’s case impacts our culture to stop protecting the reputation of an abuser over a person’s safety.

Due to online support these past two years, Mica Miller’s family has been putting in countless hours towards advocating on accountability, taking her story and transforming it into one that promotes legal and social change.

Her family has been vocal on the push for “Mica’s Law” a proposed legislation that has the ability to criminalize coercive control in domestic relationships, a part of her case that was overlooked by existing laws and has played a major role in her death.

Mica’s family has also filed a civic lawsuit against JP Miller in the hopes of securing evidence regarding Mica’s treatment and all events leading up to her death, they were able to successfully reach a settlement and gain access to documentation that supports their case.

Despite Mica Miller’s death being ruled as a suicide, her accounts and all of the evidence in its entirety points in a complete opposite direction. The coincidences and violent out of hand behavior from John Paul Miller all show that it’s clear he is complicit in at least some shape or form in the death of Mica Miller.
