The Official Student Paper of Riverside Poly High School

Editor #10:

First of all, congratulations on overcoming three full years of high school and embarking on your fourth. As seniors, freshman year sometimes seems so very far away, and it is often difficult to remember how we ourselves were at that time. Do you remember your nervous first months working your way around Poly’s seemingly endless campus? When you see any so-called “cavemen” strutting about campus you should realize that we were probably just as bad as them. In a few years, the cavemen you observe will bemoan the underclassmen just as you do now. It is important not to overgeneralize the underclassmen, as many possess some measure of maturity even at their young ages. These youngsters may also feel insecure in their new high school environment and thus project an aura of superiority, or of “ruling the campus,” as a means to cope with that insecurity. Seniors such as yourself have the unique viewpoint and maturity to recognize their difficult position. So tolerate those young whippersnappers as best you can, and remember that you may not have been so different a few years back.
