What I am about to tell you may not be pleasant to hear. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the average height for young women in America is 63.8 inches, which is roughly 5’3”. However, here comes the good news: being 5’9” just means that you are above average. For example, imagine the women’s shoe section at any department store. In what size are the cute shoes always out of stock? That’s right, the average size: eight. Cute shoes in above

average sizes, such as nine or ten, however, are consistently in stock. What I’m getting at is that being taller than average is not a burden; it makes you unique. There are some jobs that only tall people can have, such as being a fashion model for Dior or Versace, or being an Olympic volleyball player. And just think of all your fellow tall people in the celebrity world: Mandy Moore, Nicole Kidman and Taylor Swift, to name a few.

Now, is 5’9” too tall for a girl? No. If I had to set a “too tall” limit, I would probably put it at eight feet; that seems like too much height for one body to handle. Honestly though, there is no set height that a girl must be. Five-foot-nine is just as good as any other height. You can still rock high heels. And don’t fret – there are plenty of guys who are six feet and taller. Sure, being tall can make you feel self-conscious, especially as a teenager, but you need to consider your height as just one part of your whole amazing self.
