And that’s it! That’s what the rest of the school year is going to look like for the seniors.
After over ten years of being in school, only four months remain. After this, friends will part
ways, go on their separate journeys in life. We probably won’t see most of the people we know
ever again, at least not in person. These last months are a reminder of how quickly life can pass.
One day, you’re walking into your first day of kindergarten, meeting new people, getting
adjusted to a classroom, impatiently waiting for recess. The next, you’re in your middle school
classes. Dynamics are changing, and so are you. You get to see the people around you grow up in
real time, and it seems like the most important thing is whatever drama is taking place. Then
suddenly, you’re walking through your first day of freshman year. You meet new people, make
new friends (maybe forget some old ones), and you’re gonna be here for the next four years. It
seems like such a long time, so long, you don’t know if you can bear it at times. But then, before
you know it, the same way you were apprehensively walking to your kindergarten class, you are
now confidently walking that graduation stage.

Graduation holds many things for us. Freedom, new beginnings, an end to a long chapter
in our lives that will seem short at the end of it. The choir will sing their melancholic hymn, the
sun’s gold rays will fall on our faces as it sets. And as our hair gets caught in the wind, and we
grab that diploma, we will all be able to feel the accomplishment of what we did.
